At Touriste we love receiving postcards, so we asked our favorite globetrotters to write to us…
We are happy to share this monthly pleasure with you !
From Mallorca
A little about myself …
I am Beata Heuman, an interior designer and product designer based in London and South of Sweden from time to time (where I grew up).
I am also mother to Gurli (6 years) and Alma (4 years) and wife to John (38 years).
I am writing to you from …
I’m sending my postcard from Mallorca where we go the last two weeks of August every year.My husband’s grandmother cleverly bought a place here in the 80s and now we all get to enjoy it.
My Tourist moment …
I’m curious about experiencing a certain atmosphere that is particular of the place I am in and I also want to enjoy myself.
I want to be inspired by what I see and learn something but I also want to eat something delicious with a drink in my hand! So the holy grail for me is some old institution of a restaurant, ideally 100 years old or more, full of locals.
This is what I spend most of my time researching before I go. I will also sniff out any type of house museum in the vicinity, i e one where an interior has been kept intact and turned into a museum. I live for that!
My upcoming night at the hotel …
I’m going to NYC to shoot one of our projects next week and I’m staying at the Marlton where I always stay. It’s in a great location, cool interiors but not too expensive.
The travel of my dreams …
With two little ones in tow I don’t travel enough these days. We are however planning a 3-week road trip in California with the girls when my husband turns 40 in a couple of years. We’ll rent a super cool car, show them things such as Venice Boardwalk, Palm Springs, Big Sur, San Fran & Yosemite.
We have also promised to take them to Disneyland. Trip of a lifetime! I’d also love to go to Japan one day.
In my suitcase …
Some friends gave me the most beautiful weekend bag from Anya Hindmarch for my 40th this year. It is in a thick, brown canvas with red leather detailing.
It even has little gold engraved drawings the girls did on the tags.
My favourite tourist song …
Probably ‘This must be the place’ by Talking Heads.
Or ‘Pale Blue Eyes’ by The Velvet Underground.
First Travel Memory
With 4 children my parents tended to leave us children behind when it was time for a holiday but a few times a year they would stow us all into a car and do the 7 hour car journey up north to Stockholm. Growing up in the countryside it was always a big adventure and I still feel that sense of excitement when I arrive in the city as an adult.
